“Leading the Way” Matchmaking Event with GDEB

April 8, 2019 |

It’s not every day suppliers have the opportunity to sit at the table with procurement personnel from General Dynamics. But on Wednesday, May 29 from 8am-4:30pm, they may find themselves doing just that.

At the upcoming “Leading the Way” event, potential suppliers will connect with procurement personnel from the seven divisions of General Dynamics at a full-day event at the Mystic Marriott in Groton, CT. The number of attendees will be limited to ensure that participants have a meaningful experience.

The event is made possible through the partnership of the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTAC) of New England, led by host agency Connecticut PTAC, the Southeastern CT Enterprise Region (seCTer), and the Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD). PTACs assist suppliers in becoming government contractors with defense industry leaders like General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB).

According to Elizabeth Power, Director of Communications at GDEB, EB’s work to design and manufacture the world’s most capable submarines has broad impact across the region.

“The company now has more than 440 suppliers across Connecticut,” she explains. “Over the past 5 years, we have spent more than $514 million with these suppliers, who provide services that support the broader submarine industrial base.”

GDEB expects its material spend will increase by 250% in the next decade in response to the expanding needs of its Navy customer. Many prospective suppliers, prime contractors, and other small businesses will seek to benefit from this estimated growth by participating at the event on May 29.

“There is no doubt that General Dynamics Electric Boat’s growth is ‘leading the way’ as one of our region’s greatest opportunities,” says Nancy Cowser, Executive Director of seCTer. “For this reason, seCTer and CT PTAC are honored to be partnering with New England’s PTACs, DECD, GDEB, and other agencies in empowering businesses to engage the resources they need to succeed.”

Registration is open to all businesses and individuals interested in learning more about procurement opportunities at GDEB. All attendees must pre-register; no walk-ins will be admitted. A limited number of registrants will be selected based on readiness criteria to meet with participating General Dynamics procurement personnel.

Additionally, a number of trainings and business-to-business marketing opportunities will be available to registrants throughout the day. Examples include Cybersecurity by ConnStep and Polaris, and an overview of the highly successful Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (MPI) program by the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB). Hundreds of businesses are expected to participate, providing unparalleled networking opportunities for registered attendees.
