Our region is rich in natural resources, but is also offers other unique advantages. Centrally located between New York and Boston, accessible through numerous, connected transportation options including rail, bus, major highways, air and a deep water port, southeastern CT businesses can reach customers seamlessly and efficiently.

Southeastern CT is rich in technology, is honored by the presence of the US Navy Submarine Base and Coast Guard Academy, has a diverse and expanding manufacturing base, pharmaceuticals and bio-science, entrepreneurs and small businesses of all types. Our first class educational system features prominent colleges and universities, magnet schools, charter schools and everything in between.

There is no doubt that our region is infused with beautiful natural resources that are hard to match. The region is also rich in history. From our Native American and Colonial roots to our maritime legacy, southeastern Connecticut retains the character that provides our residents and visitors with tangible evidence of who we are and why this region is so special.

There are things to do for everyone! Wine trails, breweries, kayak trails, sports venues, historic walking tours, water taxis, historic sites, antiques, shopping, entertainment, dining that spans multiple cultures and dining types, art, beaches, world-class casinos that themselves offer a wide range of entertainment options in addition to gambling, and cornerstone tourist attractions such as Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Seaport… the list is truly endless. Tens of thousands of travelers visit our region every year to enjoy just how great southeastern Connecticut is!

Major parks and forests are found throughout the region, Patchaug State Forest, North Stonington and Griswold; Bluff Point Coastal Reserve and Haley Farm State Park, Groton; Salmon River State Forest, Colchester; Nehantic State Forest and Rocky Neck State Park, East Lyme; Harkness Memorial Park, Waterford; Hopeville Pond State Park, Griswold; and numerous Wildlife Preserves. The Airline Trail is a major multi-use trail that stretches from eastern Connecticut highlands to the Connecticut River in Portland.

Other assets associated with quality of life include the coastline and other marine resources of the region, both for business and recreation; the health care system; quality educational institutions and opportunities for continuing education; the generally low crime rate; the climate; and the beauty of the region in its open spaces, hills, and beaches.

In addition to the natural and recreational resources, the region is rich with a diverse collection of arts, culture, and historic assets which rival that of some of the surrounding urban centers. Southeastern CT Cultural Coalition’s (SCCC) mission is to foster region-wide economic growth in New London County, by optimizing existing arts and cultural activities, to ensure that the cultural sector and creative business assets are central to the vitality of the region.
