Skilled Workforce

Innovation is a way of life in southeastern Connecticut — and also the way we teach and learn.

Innovative Workforce Development

Responsive collaborations between employers and educational institutions have positioned the region at the forefront of technology education. Norwich’s Three Rivers Community College, with direct input from the Eastern Advanced Manufacturing Alliance, implemented a Business & Industry program. The Eastern Workforce Investment Board created the Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative which is taught at Ella T. Grasso Technical High School in Groton. Both programs prepare students for jobs in advanced manufacturing.

EASTERN WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD

In order to prepare workers for advanced manufacturing employment at Electric Boat (EB) and companies that support EB’s supply chain, seCTer partners with the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) on regional workforce development. EWIB’s Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative is the conduit through which employers, educational institutions and job seekers match southeastern Connecticut’s labor market supply and demand.

MANUFACTURING PIPELINE INITIATIVE

The Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (MPI) develops skilled workers for EB, members of the Eastern Advanced Manufacturing Alliance (EAMA), and other regional employers via classroom/online training, and job placement assistance. The MPI training curriculum is aligned to the specific hiring needs of manufacturers, who expect several hundred job openings annually over the coming years.

EASTERN ADVANCED MANUFACTURING ALLIANCE

The Eastern Advanced Manufacturing Alliance (EAMA) partners with Quinebaug Valley Community College (QVCC), Three Rivers Community College (TRCC), Ella T. Grasso Technical High School, and H.H. Ellis Technical High School to increase the capacity and industry-relevance of the region’s primary manufacturing training and educational programs. EAMA works with these educational partners to change perceptions of the manufacturing industry and promote manufacturing careers to youth and adults. EAMA supports its two partner colleges to align their efforts to best meet the needs of all regional manufacturers.
